Why Choose Holistic Beginnings?

Doula training shaped by decades of real birth experience.

Learning how to become a doula requires more than memorizing positions, terminology and comfort measures.

Laura’s teaching has been shaped by more than 1,000 births. She knows what it is like when labor changes quickly, when a partner needs direction, when a family becomes overwhelmed and when the doula needs to remain grounded enough to support everyone else in the room.

Students learn how to think, communicate and adapt—not simply memorize techniques. Each birth doula training workshop is practical, participatory and grounded in professional scope, ethics, respectful care and evidence-informed support.

What Students Can Expect

What to expect from your birth doula training.

Laura does not teach at students. She teaches with them through conversation, demonstration, hands-on practice, case examples and the questions that emerge as people begin imagining themselves in real birth spaces.

01

Learn the foundations

Understand the birth doula role, professional scope, ethics, labor and birth, prenatal preparation and the responsibilities you carry into the room.

02

Practice doula skills

Practice comfort measures, positioning, communication and hands-on labor support with other students rather than learning solely through lectures.

03

Prepare for real clients

Work through advocacy, professional boundaries, difficult moments, DONA certification and the first steps toward building a sustainable doula practice.

01

Navigate DONA certification

Ask questions about certification requirements, documentation and next steps as you move through the process.

02

Bring the questions that come later

Once you begin working with real families, new questions emerge. Laura remains a resource for the practical questions that often arise for new doulas.

03

Develop professional judgment

Learn from the perspective of an experienced trainer and birth professional as your confidence, skills and professional judgment continue to develop.
